Wii think, Something Doesn't Add Up!

So, Digg just told me that "Wii sales pass 14 million in 12 months". That reminded me of something I read just recently, Nintendo is producing 1.8 million Wii units per month.
So, 12 months since launch, 14 million sold, 1.8 million made per month, and there's shortages (see link in linked Gizmodo article)? That doesn't make a lot of sense. Sales of 14 million over 12 months should mean just under 1.2 million per month. Sure, things aren't constant, especially during the holiday season things are busier. But, 50% more than average? Weird.
P.S. I just started playing Zelda Ocarina of Time because I heard it was so wonderful (random Googled link). I've considered building a real collection of all the Mario games out there, on real consoles. Maybe I'll do Zelda games too, to make it (slightly) less insane to do so. Tis the greedy consumer season, after all.

I've heard great things about Super Mario Galaxy that makes me want a Wii. On the other hand, the new Ratchet & Clank and the upcoming Grand Theft Auto will be for the PS3 or XBOX 360.
Bah - I've got a sinking suspicion I'm going to end up with one of each.
